Rachel and Dustin's Journey
Dustin and Rachel are a husband and wife duo that both underwent bariatric surgery with Dr. Matthew Metz. Together, they have lost a combined 247 lbs from the gastric sleeve procedure.
Rachel:
Hi, I’m Rachel.
Dustin:
And I’m Dustin. A.K.A. the Mitchells.
Rachel:
We are both patients of Dr. Metz. I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy or VSG surgery, November 5th of 2018.
Dustin:
And I had the same thing, the sleeve surgery on November 7th, 2019.
Rachel:
For me, one of the main reasons that I actually, decided to go ahead and have weight loss surgery, was tomorrow’s not promised and I didn’t wanna, spend another two years attempting to diet, that I had already been doing two years prior to that. So, at that point I had actually been through a lot of personal development classes, and seeing speakers and read books. And a big thing that they talked about, was stop worrying about everyone else’s opinion. And to be honest, I think that stigma came from what I was fearing other people were going to think about me, for having weight loss surgery. I actually interviewed a few different doctors, and a friend of mine had gone to Dr. Metz, and loved him and highly recommended him. And so, I then went to him and felt the same. He was just super professional, and talked me through the whole procedure, and very confident. Not to mention, I looked up a lot of his statistics, with the success of his patients prior to me. And it was really promising.
Dustin:
She went through it and you got through it pretty good, and had very good success with it. So I said, “Why not?” So of course, I chose the same doctor that she did, Dr. Metz and he was very, I mean, I had no complaints, because I saw him do stuff with my wife, Rachel here, and everything worked out good. So I was like, “Oh, you must be a good doctor, then.” I just saw how great she did. So I was like, “Dr. Metz, you’re my guy.”
Rachel:
I am down 87 pounds. I still lost an extra 20 pounds between year one and two, which is awesome because that tells me, that I’m using my tool appropriately.
Dustin:
I’ve lost 120 pounds. It’s probably helped me with my other medical problems. Like I said, I probably had sleep apnea, and all this other stuff. And now, I don’t have any of that problem. My wife Rachel here says I don’t even snore anymore. So I mean, so I’m actually getting a full night’s sleep. Which really, I think that was my biggest thing. I have a lot more energy, so I can play with my crazy kids.
Rachel:
My weight was what was just really holding me back, from doing the things that I love. Being able to play with our three kids, being able to get out there on the swing set, or this year we bought ski passes. We haven’t skied in nine years since we had our first child. We’re getting back into skiing. We’ve been riding bikes, all of these things, it’s just been an amazing experience and probably one, of the best decisions I think we both ever did.
Dustin:
Highly recommend Dr. Metz, he’s changed our lives. So I think he could change somebody else’s life. I mean, if y’all having the same kind of issues, as being overweight, my wife and I have done it, and it’s made our relationship better, because we’re not all tired all the time as much. You spend more time together.
Rachel:
And not to mention, it’s actually given us both confidence back, pretty much gave us our life back.
