I was highly impressed with Dr. Snyder. He is a very kind and strong personality. The more I talked with him the more I came to respect his attitude about obesity. He is a very dedicated Dr. with a very dedicated staff. Every time I had to call the office for information or questions they were always willing to give or get what ever information you required. Dr. Snyder is very much in to after care and followup. Once you have this surgery you are as he states a part of his family and he definately takes care of his family. I like the idea that I can call him or email him and he never seems put out. He is always available to you. He is very thorough with his lecture expalining every aspect of the surgical proceedure, the hospital care, the surgery itself and the aftercare. He goes over all the pros and cons and lets you make the decision. He in no way tries to influence your decission. He is a A-1 Doctor. His bedside manner is outstanding and his surgical competence goes beyond compare.

Personal Comments before and after measurments april 2001 ---- february 2002 waist 45" ---- 33 1/2" hips 54 1/4" ---- 43" under breast 42 1/2" ---- 36 3/4" breast 48 3/4" ---- 41" Thigh 28 1/2" ---- 23 1/2" calf 17 1/2" ---- 15 1/4" total lost in 10 months 43 1/2" it's been a long journey to pre op but one i would do again if needed. i am scheduled for surgery on april 24, 2001. i started in early january 2001. i trust my surgeon, dr. michael a. snyder, and am very excited to be where i am now. early on i emailed 3 people on this site and i am actually going to have surgery on the same day and at the same hospital with one of the girls i wrote to. i am so excited to have a new friend to go thru this with!!! today is April 29, 2001. i left the hospital yesterday and i feel great. i have to use the pain medication but i just got back from a walk around the block! be careful you get tired very fast. my surgery was a breeze and the worst part was not drinking anything for a day or two. it went fast. my doctor and nurses were great and praised me so much that i felt like getting up and walking and doing the breathing excercises. i got bored on the third day because i felt so good! my anastechiologist gave me an epideral and it was heavenly! by the time he took it out (about 2 days) the pain medication was sufficient. i am not hungery at all and enjoy the small protein shakes. i see my doc in 5 days and he will evaluate my diet again. beware i am slightly bigger than i was before the surgery because of all the fluids the put in me. each day i am gettting closer to feeling normal. i can't wait for the results to start showing!!!!!!!!! May 20, 2001 i am four weeks post op and i feel good. i had problems with nausia (almost like the flu) for about a week. i have lost 25 lbs and my meals satisfy me. it is important to create a schedule for the meals and water and medications. you have to time your meals seperately from your fluid intake so that you stay satisfied for a sufficient amount of time and you have to keep your fluid intake up or you will get dehydrated or constipated both of which are painful. i became constipated and that contributed greatly to my nausea. so don't let it get out of control. after 10 days i was able to eat cottage cheese, yougart and egg beaters none of which move through without some help. now i am able to eat pureed foods that are high in protein. overall it has been a blessing and will get better as i learn new eating habits that support healthy digestion. june 1, 2001 i am eating 1 oz meals 3 to 4 times a day and am trying to get the water. i am starting to feel like myself again. i walk every day at least 1 mile. my weight seems to have leveled off for awhile so i am going to drink more water and hope that helps. my incision aches and is very sensitive so i am not able to play with my kids the way i would like but it has only been 5 1/2 weeks. june 14, 2001 i went to my doctor yesterday and he is so happy with my progress. i have lost 35 lbs in 6 weks! i am starting to come out of the post surgery funk. my incission is still very tender and there is slight ripping that feels like a burning sensation under the skin but my doctor said that is normal. i look back on the recovery period with fond memories. my friends and family took great care of me and made me feel important. i eat 1 oz meals and am satisfied. i have no interest in sweets or pop or even starchy foods anymore. i love chicken and veggies and some rice or pasta occasionally. the recovery was the most difficult but it has gotten easier after about 4 weeks july 9,2001 WOW!!! it's been almost three months and i feel great!! i don't know my exact weight loss to date, i see dr. snyder on the 26th of this month and i will update. my life has returned to normal. i eat alot of protein, wich i really enjoy. i used to crave doughnuts and breads and now i would rather have some chicken or green beans!!! i feel very satisfied with the food i eat and i can feel the weight burning off!!!! my energy is back!!! i am so happy that i was able to have this surgery! august 11, 2001 it has been 3 months and i have lost 50 lbs!!!!!!!! everyone is calling me "skinny" and my hubby keeps telling me to eat!!! wls is the best thing i have ever done. i feel so good. i was in the hospital last week for an ulcer but the dr. is treating it and i have no more pain!! life is good!!!! december 5, 2001 it has been 7 months and i have lost 75 lbs and about 38 inches. i am completely satisfied with my surgery and it's life changes. i have been approached by several people interested in the surgery and they are looking into the procedure now. i am so happy!!! it feels so good to wear nice clothes and have people look me in the eye again!!!!!!!!!! i would love to help anyone who reads this research this option and decide if it is the right answer for them. today is march 7, 2003 i am so comfortable in my new life that i almost forget that i had a weight problem and surgery to take care of it. i am 160lbs, i wear a size 12 jeans very comfortably and i feel great every day. i thank god everyday that i was able to finally overcome the horrible lifestyle that comes with being morbidly overweight. god bless all of you with your journey. i highly recommend this procedure for those of you who have struggled with your weight and are consumed by it's affects on your daily life!!!! Today is August 19, 2003 i am maintaining my weight at 155 - 160. i am so very happy that i had this surgery! life is so good and the memory of being unhappy and uncomfortable and invisible is very dim. I have to take nexium every day and we aren't sure why yet but other than that i am very healthy. My tastes have changed and my main focus on life is not on food but sometimes i get so busy that i forget to eat, something i could only imagine in the past. If you are thinking about this procedure... GO FOR IT!!! Today is November 19, 2004 i am maintaining my weight loss and am still very very happy that i made the choice to have gastric by pass surgery. I thank God everyday for my excellent surgeon and my courage to go through with this very serious procedure. Still in all i would do it all over again. The respect and acceptance i receive from people has helped me improve my self esteem and learn who i really am. i do have an ulcer from the surgery and have to take medication to keep that under control. I still eat about 1 cup portions and am able to eat most foods. the best side effect of this surgery was the loss of interest in foods like sweets and fatty foods. i have no desire for thema and so i don't even miss them and am so happy to be free from the cravings. going to restaurants ans seeing the portions still amazes me!! i can't beleive that i used to eat that much food and don't miss it or feel deprived at all. i hope that if you are reading this, that it helps you see the future and maybe makes your decision easier. God Bless and Good Luck!!! Dr. Snyder is the best doctor i have ever seen. he puts you at ease immediately. I found him on this web site and he emailed me back right away. i went to his seminar on 1/18/01 and got the work ups done asap. i am waiting for insurance approval and then i will meet with dr. snyder again. All of the feedback that i have read about him is very true. He really is dedicated to WLS and has a very personal manner. Dr. Snyder gives you the truth regarding the entire process, i never felt that he was trying to "sell me" or talk me out of it either. i feel that i know about everything there is to know in large part because of his book. I have complete trust in Dr. Snyder's competance and i look forward to seeing him regularly for the rest of my life. Insurer Info: atu local 1001 health and welfare trust the ATU has not authorized this proceedure before me so they had a little trouble with procedures. they did approve after medical reveiw and were very easy to work with. stay on them because they tended to stall a little. UPDATE THE ATU HAS OR WILL SOON PASS AN ACT TO NOT COVER THIS PROCEDURE ANYMORE AFTER APPROVING 2 PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been approved by Medicare and am waiting to hear from my surgeon about a date. I feel ready for surgery. I've done a lot of research and feel like I understand the procedure as well as the changes after surgery. Comments About Dr. Michael A. Snyder: I found Dr. Snyder on this web site and sent him an e-mail. He e-mailed back within 2 days and answered my questions. He also told me something about himself and his practice. He holds an open lecture each month on weight loss surgery. I attended the 2/20 lecture. The lecture was very informative and Dr. Snyder is full of energy and very passionate about morbid obesity. I live in Kansas and Dr. Snyder is in Colorado and his wonderful staff arranged for me to have consultations with the psychologist, pulmonologist and Dr. Snyder while I was in Denver for his lecture. It was a great experience. Dr. Snyder has put together a terrific team that will work hard to help me succeed.
We had our chance to meet Dr. Snyder at his lecture on 1/18/01. We found him to be very professional and personable. Since then we have had our 1st appointment and are very happy, excited and impressed with both him and his staff. When we seemed to experience time delays in getting appointments with the pulmonologist and psychologist Dr. S was true to his word and called them and we were moved up impressively in their schedules. We already LOVE Dr. Snyder.
